Fortunately, the folks at Animal Haven shelter brought her through the Holland Tunnel (hence her full name, Holland) to their facilities in SoHo. This is what Holly looked like when she was rescued.
Seriously, who could abandon that face??!
The folks at Haven fostered her, nursed her back to health, and took this photo of her at eight weeks old------>
Needless to say, when I saw this photo on their website, I was D-O-N-E, done. Dragged my husband in to meet her, filled out an application, and essentially harassed the Haven folks for the next week until they agreed to make us Holly’s puppy parents.
When we adopted her, they said she was a Beagle mix, but it turns out she's a "Groenunstruss" (Groenendael, Unknown, AmStaff, Jack Russell). We did her DNA test. Cuz I'm a dork like that.
In the months since we’ve adopted her, Holly and I have been on several “dogventures,” including:
The Mets' Bark in the Park Event
(With cousin/doggodmom Kelly)
The Brooklyn Bridge
And Lots of fun dog parks
I can only hope there are many more fun HollyDays to come...
